"Gana Mukundapriya" was inaugurated by late semmangudi Sri Srinivasa Iyer during March 1995. The concept of starting the Sabha is to promote young and upcoming artistes in the music field. To begin with the Sabha had one programme per month on purely carnatic music in Srinivasa Sastry Hall, Luz, Mylapore, Chennai - 4.
 
From the year 2003 the sabha had decided to have concerts on the occasions of Sri rama Navami, Summer Series, Sri Krishna Jayanthi, Navarathiri and December Music Season. But at the same time the Sabha had been arranging monthly music concerts in Bharathiya Vidhya Bavan Mini Hall A/c, East Mada Street, Mylapore, Chennai - 4. Slowly and steadily the Sabha started giving programmes as per the schedule. The Sabha is proud of saying that nearly 500 artists have performed in our programmes.
 
From 2006 onwards the Sabha was interested in promoting Bharatha Natyam also. The Sabha had nearly 20 to 25 programmes in Dakshinamurthy Auditorium and then switched over to R. K. Swamy Auditorium A/c. To begin with, the Sabha had 10 days Programme on Bharatha Natyam, namely, "MaJanuary 28, 2008ha Sivarathri Dance Festival" during February 2007. The Sabha had been giving monthly programme on Bharatha Natyam. As far as music is concerned, as usual, the Sabha had Sri Rama Navami Utsavam and Krishna Jayanthi Utsavam casting ten days.
 
The Sabha has been registered during April 2007 with Registration No. 128/2007 under Societies Act. The Sabha is going to celebrate December season for Music and Bharatha Natyam in R. K. Swamy Auditorium A/c., 5, Sundareswarar Street, Mylapore, Chennai - 4. There are 22 Artistes performing for Bharatha Natyam during Dec. 2007.
 
The Sabha is conferring the Title "Natya Kala Choodamani" to Smt. K.J Sarasa on 30th November 2007 and subsequently confers the Title "Gana Amrudha Sagara" to Smt. Padma Narayanaswamy on the same date. The Sabha is also coferring the Title "Gana Amrudha Sagara" to Smt. Kalpana Venkat on 12th December 2007. Further the Sabha is conferring the Title "Gana Amrudha Sagara" to Smt. Kousalya Sivakumar on 13th December 2007. All the four events will be held at R.k. Swamy Auditorium, Mylapore, Chennai - 4.
 
Last year the Sabha had honoured Sri R. Suryaprakash by conferring the Title "Gana Amrudha Sagara" by Sri. N. Murali, Managing Director of the Hindu at Naradha Gana Sabha on 29th November 2006 with a purse of Rs.5000/-.
